Overview and rules of the course
The PADI Specialty Course in Buoyancy control is designed to help to all divers to improve their buoyancy control capabilities beyond the Open Water Diver level by developing knowledge and practicing buoyancy exercises.
The course is designed to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to Buoyancy control diving. Training should emphasize fun and safety.
The recommended minimum number of hours is 5 hours (1 hour for the development of knowledge, 2 hours for each dive in open water).
“Buoyancy Seminar” – Note to PADI members
The PADI Divemasters can direct the knowledge development part of this specialty (IV Course overview and Fundamentals of the domain of buoyancy) and the Immersion one as part of a buoyancy seminar.
The AWARE project certificate is available in PADI to recognize participants after the seminar.
A. Prerequisites
In order to participate in the Buoyancy control course, the person must:
1. Be certified as a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or have an equivalent certification from another teaching organization.
2. Have 10 years of age or older.
The Adventure immersion of the Buoyancy control conducted during the PADI Adventures in Diving program can be taken into account for this specialty at the discretion of the instructor who directs the specialty course.
B. Supervision
The PADI Buoyancy control courses can be directed by any PADI Assistant Instructor “under the direction” of a PADI Instructor (or by any PADI Instructor with a higher level) in Teaching status.
When directing the program, the instructor must use the standardized Buoyancy control Instructor Guide
The maximum quantity of students per instructor for open water training dives is eight students per instructor (8: 1) *. The Students can be indirectly supervised by the instructor during open water training dives.
