The Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina is a department of Colombia located to the west of the Caribbean Sea, 775 kilometers (480 nautical miles) northwest of the Atlantic coast of the country and 220 km (140 nautical miles) from the eastern coasts of Nicaragua. The departmental capital is San Andrés, but the Archipelago has only one municipality, Providencia. It is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Colombia with one of the best beaches in America. San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina is located in the northeast of Colombia, located west of the so-called «Greater Caribbean Region» on the sea of the Antilles, between the parallels 12 ° -16 ° North Latitude and the Meridians 78-82 West Longitude of Greenwich. It is integrated for the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina; the Bolivar islets, Albuquerque, Cotton, Haynes, Johnny Rose, Roncador, Serrana, Serranilla, Quitasueño, Tree Brothers, Rocky Crab, and The Bancos Alicia and Bajo Nuevo.

It is the Biosphere Reserve with the largest marine area in the world, with 65km2 of area.

From the main cities of Colombia, the Satena, LAN, Copa Airlines and Avianca airlines provide direct flights to the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla of San Andrés International Airport.
